Not recommended areas: it is advisable to avoid the more peripheral and less touristy areas, especially late at night when it's dark.

If this is your first time visiting Tunis, the best solution is definitely to stay in Medina, the historical heart of the capital, rich in markets and home to numerous attractions. It's also a very convenient area to stay, so if you have a limited budget you won't have to miss out on this experience. If you're looking for a quiet area, opt for Mutuelleville and Berges du Lac. The first district is north of Medina and is one of the richest residential areas, with large green spaces and embassy headquarters. The second is right on the lake and is particularly suitable for families.

Finally, if you're looking for nightlife and entertainment, opt for Ville Nouvelle. This is the most modern area of the city, crossed by the famous Avenue Habib Bourguiba, the hub of nightlife and a meeting place for young people. Medina is also a great option, full of small venues.

Mutuelleville, along with Berges du Lac, is one of the most beautiful residential areas of Tunis. In particular, Mutuelleville is one of the most luxurious areas of the capital, immersed in greenery and featuring luxury hotels. On one side, it borders the wonderful Belvedere Park, the only large park in the capital, an oasis of greenery with splendid views of the surroundings.

This neighborhood is ideal especially for families and those seeking tranquility. Here you will indeed be far from the nightlife of Ville Nouvelle, and silence is the main feature. Travel Tips for Tunis

  • Public Transport: Getting around Tunis can be a bit challenging. The metro system (light rail) is useful for some routes, but taxis are the most popular and affordable option for tourists. It's essential to ensure the driver uses the meter to avoid overpaying. "Louages" (shared taxis) are a common way to travel between cities.
  • Best Time to Visit: The best time to visit Tunis is in the spring (April-June) and autumn (September-November). The weather is warm and pleasant, perfect for sightseeing, and the tourist crowds are smaller than in the peak summer months.
  • Local Currency: The currency is the Tunisian Dinar (TND). It is a "closed currency," which means you cannot import or export it. You must exchange your money upon arrival at a bank, post office, or hotel. It's also illegal to take any dinars out of the country, so be sure to convert any leftover currency before you leave.
  • Local Vibe/Culture: Tunisia is a Muslim country, and a large portion of the population speaks French. The people are known for their hospitality, but it's important to be respectful of local customs, especially when visiting religious sites. Bargaining is expected in the souks, so don't be afraid to haggle for a good price.
