Not recommended areas: from a safety point of view, there are no areas to avoid. From a tourist point of view, we do not recommend places like San Rafael, inland, with fewer services, attractions, and far from the sea.
The best area to stay is the capital Ivissa, connected to the main beaches, attractions, and the port. It is especially recommended if it is your first time visiting the island. Obviously, it is also one of the busiest areas. Within Ivissa, we recommend the area of Playa de Talamanca, quieter and suitable for families, or Ses Figueretes, slightly cheaper.
Of course, there are also other recommended cities besides Ivissa. For example, if you want to save money, the cheapest place on the island is Sant Antoni de Portmany, also ideal for those looking for nightlife, as it is full of clubs and discos and close to some of the island's most beautiful beaches!
If you are looking for tranquility or traveling with family, you should head to the northern part of the island, with places like Portinatx and Sant Eulalia!

Ivissa is the economic and administrative capital of the island. Here you will be connected to the main attractions and locations of Ibiza and will be within walking distance of some of the most famous beaches, such as Playa d'en Bossa. Moreover, here are the airport, the island's main port, and you can get lost in the streets of Dalt Vila, the oldest part of Ibiza!
It is probably the best place to stay on the island! However, some clarifications are needed: if you have no budget limits and want to experience the nightlife that has made Ibiza so famous, then you can choose any area of the capital, especially the historic center. If instead, you are looking for more tranquility or are traveling with family, opt for the area of Playa de Talamanca, northeast of the historic center. Finally, if you have a limited budget, you will mainly find offers and more affordable prices in the area of Ses Figueretes, southwest of the center, between the Old Town and Playa d'en Bossa. This area is great also because ferries for the others islands depart from here.

It is about 20 minutes by car from Ivissa, on the opposite side of the island. This place is the perfect combination of sea and fun, as in addition to the numerous clubs, with nightlife starting at sunset with an aperitif at the famous Café del Mar, there are numerous wonderful beaches and coves around, such as S'Arenal and Es Pouet!

Portinatx is a small town in the north of the island. It is one of the most famous and appreciated places in the north, located near wonderful beaches such as S'Arenal Gros, S'Arenal Petit, Playa Porto, and Es Raco. Here you will find a place that is very different from those seen so far, where nature and landscape are the main protagonists!
It is indeed one of the most recommended areas for families and those looking for relaxation! Here you will find mainly tranquility, nature, beautiful sea, and wonderful landscapes. Of course, there are clubs, services, and excellent hotels, but do not expect the nightlife of Ivissa and surroundings. Above all, it is easier to find hotels and accommodations that offer half board, full board, or all-inclusive treatment.

Santa Eulalia, full name Santa Eulària des Riu, is one of the most famous places in Ibiza, the third largest city. It is located on the east coast, about 20 minutes north of Ivissa. Nearby you will find places and beaches such as Cala Llonga (also ideal for staying and with similar characteristics to Santa Eulalia), Es Canar (mainly chosen by couples looking for a romantic getaway), and Cala Llenya.
A quiet and elegant place, it is ideal for families and those who want to enjoy some relaxation! Nature, the wonderful nearby beaches, many with sand and shallow water, many outdoor activities: these are just some of Santa Eulalia's strengths. Here too, there are services and accommodations of all kinds, but you will not find the nightlife of Ivissa or Playa en Bossa.

Inland villages in Ibiza where to stay
So far we have mainly proposed seaside places, as in Ibiza it is one of the main attractions! Moreover, it is along the coast that the main cities are located, with all the best services, attractions, and accommodations.
However, there are also several inland villages, where you can immerse yourself in the more traditional atmosphere of Ibiza! Here you will be completely surrounded by nature, and the accommodations are mainly family-run. This experience is mainly recommended for those who want to relax, move by car, and are not particularly interested in beach life.
Let's see what the two main villages are, taking Ivissa as a reference point:
- Sant Josep de sa Talaia (13 km / 15 min): a small village in the south of Ibiza, with a quiet and relaxed life, with wonderful views of the surroundings. Ideal for those who want to recharge their batteries - compare the accommodation on booking
- Sant Miquel de Balansat (18 km / 20 min): a charming village in the north of Ibiza, whose center is about 4 km from the coast. Mass tourism has not yet arrived here, and Sant Miquel retains its traditional and quiet side - compare the accommodation on booking
Travel Tips for Ibiza
- Public Transport: Renting a car or scooter is highly recommended to explore the island's hidden coves and beaches. The bus network is also efficient, connecting major towns and resorts, especially during the summer.
- Best Time to Visit: The summer months (June to August) are the peak season for parties and are very crowded. The shoulder seasons (May, September, and October) offer a great balance of good weather and a lively atmosphere without the massive crowds.
- Local Currency: The currency is the Euro (€). Credit cards are widely accepted, especially in tourist areas. It's useful to have some cash for small purchases or in more rural areas.
- Local Vibe/Culture: Ibiza has two distinct sides: the world-famous party scene and the tranquil, bohemian side. Make sure to explore both. The island has a relaxed, free-spirited atmosphere, and respecting the environment is highly valued.
